Here visitors will find many eco-lodges that are run on solar power generators and other environmentally friendly practices.

Several lodges and hotels provide their own pick up service by boat. This service is generally offered from the town of
Sierpe.

When you come here, be aware that due to the remoteness of the region, communication might be limited. Take into consideration that cell phones might not work. The common way of communication is via a shortwave radio or radio phones.

From Drake you can go to Corcovado National Park. Here you will find the tallest primary rainforest in the world. This park shelters several endangered animal and bird species. It also protects a wide variety of flora which in many cases is endemic.

Isla del Caño is also nearby and it offers great snorkeling and scuba diving. Here you will be able to swim among gorgeous multicolored tropical fish and dolphins. The area also offers horseback riding tours and sport fishing off the coast.

Protecting a lot of beach and tropical forest, the 1,235 acre (500 ha) Punta Río Claro National Wildlife Refuge is located on the hills south of the tiny town of Agujitas. If you go further south along the coast, you will find the Campanario Biological Reserve. Here they offer courses in Neotropical Ecology and they provide rustic accommodations.

In addition, Drake Bay is a great base to explore the uninhabited Caño Island and the Caño Island Biological Reserve. This is one of the most popular snorkeling locations in the area. The island has remnants from an ancient civilization that carved stone spheres dating back to pre-Columbian eras. The reserve makes up 740 acres (300 ha) of beautiful protected land with trails that you can explore.

Its beaches are visited by Olive Ridley sea turtles, which lay their eggs on the sandy beaches. Just offshore, whales and dolphins enjoy gathering in the temperate waters. Tours can be arranged from Drake as the island is about 10 miles offshore.

Drake Bay is the perfect vacation spot for those who want to relax and get away from it all.
